Kenyans Could Soon Get Relief at Fuel Pumps as Mbadi Reveals Government’s November Plan

Kenyans could soon enjoy some relief from high fuel prices after Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi hinted that the government may use money from the fuel stabilisation fund to lower pump prices in the November to December review period.

Speaking during an interview on Ramogi FM on Tuesday, November 3, Mbadi explained that the government deliberately avoided using the fund during the October review to preserve resources for the next pricing cycle.

He said fuel prices were expected to rise in November due to increased demand in the international market as European countries and other parts of the Western world prepare for winter.

According to Mbadi, the government had to make a difficult decision on when to use the available funds to protect consumers from rising fuel costs.

He described the move as a “balancing act”, explaining that money was withheld during the previous review so it could be used to cushion Kenyans in November.

The latest fuel price increase has placed additional pressure on motorists and households.

In Nairobi, Super Petrol increased by Ksh12.93 per litre to Ksh226.96, while Diesel rose by Ksh9.90 to Ksh227.76.

Kerosene recorded the biggest increase of Ksh28.49 per litre, pushing its price to Ksh219.87.

Mbadi also defended government levies imposed on petroleum products, arguing that removing them without identifying alternative sources of revenue would create serious funding gaps.

He specifically defended the Road Maintenance Levy, saying the money collected is important for constructing and maintaining roads across the country.

The Treasury CS argued that motorists could still face higher expenses if fuel prices were reduced but the roads they use were left in poor condition.
