JUSAG strike: Chief Justice directs Supreme Court to proceed with Tuesday’s sitting
The Supreme Court is scheduled to carry out its regular court business on Tuesday, November 3, notwithstanding the indefinite strike by members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
A notice released on Monday, November 2, and signed by Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed, confirmed that the court would sit following a directive from the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
“Pursuant to the direction of His Lordship, the Chief Justice, it is hereby notified for the information of all Lawyers and parties to proceedings that the Supreme Court shall convene for its normal court business tomorrow, Tuesday, 3rd November 2026,” the notice stated.
Lawyers and parties with cases scheduled for hearing have consequently been asked to take note of the arrangement and make the necessary preparations to attend court.
The announcement comes amid an indefinite industrial action declared by JUSAG over the government’s failure to approve and pay revised salaries and associated arrears for 2026.
The association has maintained that its members will not return to work until their demands are met.
The strike has raised concerns about the availability of administrative and other support services within the Judicial Service, many of which are handled by JUSAG members.
Although the Supreme Court has confirmed that its regular sitting will proceed, the extent to which the industrial action could affect support operations during the proceedings remains uncertain.
Lawyers and litigants with matters listed before the court have been formally notified to attend the scheduled sitting.
