Julius Malema Predicts Anti-GNU President Will Lead ANC After 2027 Elective Conference
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has asserted that the African National Congress (ANC) will elect a president strictly opposed to the Government of National Unity (GNU) at its 2027 elective conference. Speaking at a recent media briefing, Malema claimed that escalating internal discontent among party members makes a dramatic leadership pivot inevitable.
Malema categorized the current GNU—formed after the ANC lost its parliamentary majority in the 2024 general election—as a “marriage of convenience” that undermines the party’s historic role as a champion of the working class. He focused his critique on the coalition’s inclusion of the Democratic Alliance (DA), accusing the opposition party of prioritizing corporate interests over ordinary South Africans.
“The ANC’s rank and file will eventually rebel against the GNU,” Malema stated. “The ANC of 2027 will have no choice but to elect a leader who represents its traditional values and rejects the sell-out nature of this coalition.”
According to the EFF commander-in-chief, policy impasses within the multi-party cabinet will deepen existing ideological rifts, further alienating the ANC’s grassroots supporters. He warned that the party’s long-term political survival hinges on whether it reclaims ideological independence and sever ties with big business interests.
While ANC leadership has publicly dismissed Malema’s assertions as political posturing, party insiders acknowledge that coalition dynamics remain a point of friction within the tripartite alliance. Political analysts note that the outcome of the 2027 elective conference will serve as a crucial bellwether for the future stability of South Africa’s governance landscape and the longevity of multi-party coalitions.
