If You Go To My State, Katsina, Or To Kwara And Kano, Who Is Talking About Donald Duke? – Mahdi Shehu Asks

Activist and public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has questioned the level of public recognition enjoyed by former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, who is expected to contest the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Shehu made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV on Sunday, November 1, 2026, while discussing the political visibility of presidential hopefuls ahead of the next general election.

During the interview, the activist expressed doubts about how widely Duke’s presidential ambition is known, particularly among voters in some northern states.

He mentioned Katsina, Kwara and Kano as examples, arguing that the former governor was not a prominent subject of political conversations in those areas.

Speaking on the issue, Shehu stated, “If you go to my state, Katsina, or to Kwara and Kano, who is talking about Donald Duke?”

His comment formed part of his assessment of the level of awareness surrounding political figures seeking to participate in the 2027 presidential contest.

Donald Duke previously served as governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007. His political experience and reported presidential ambition have placed him among the personalities being discussed ahead of the next election.

Shehu’s remarks highlight the importance of national visibility for politicians seeking the country’s highest political office. Presidential candidates are expected to reach voters across different regions and communicate their policies, priorities and plans for addressing national challenges.

Nigeria’s political landscape is characterised by diverse regional interests, making public engagement and nationwide recognition important aspects of presidential campaigns.
