I Shouted And Asked Why BAT Raised Service Wide Vote From N2T To N4T In 2024,Not Knowing I Was Being Stupid—Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has spoken about the increase in Nigeria’s Service-Wide Vote (SWV) under President Bola Tinubu

In an interview with Arise TV, Melaye said Buhari’s government raised the Service-Wide Vote to about 2 trillion naira in 2022. He stated that the Tinubu administration increased it to more than 4 trillion naira in 2024.

Melaye said he granted a press conference in 2024 where he criticized Tinubu’s government for increasing Service-Wide Vote by 2 trillion naira. He said Tinubu’s government later increased SWV to 9 trillion naira in 2025 and then to over 12 trillion naira in 2026.

In Melaye’s words: “In 2022 Buhari raised it to its highest in history which was around 2 trillion naira. Surprisingly in 2024 this Tinubu government raised it to over 4 trillion naira. I shouted at that time, I addressed a press briefing at that time that what will necessitate an increase of about 2 trillion naira by the Tinubu administration in 2024? I didn’t know I was actually being stupid. In 2025 Tinubu administration raised the service wide vote to over 9 trillion naira from 4 trillion”
