Hundreds of Factories Now Running Three Shifts – Agalga
Majority Leader James Agalga has disclosed that over 300 filling stations and hundreds of factories across the country are now operating three shifts under the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, offering a major vote of confidence in the initiative’s progress.
Speaking on the policy’s implementation, Agalga emphasized that the 24-hour economy is not a one-off programme but an ongoing process aimed at transforming Ghana’s economic landscape. “The policy is a process, not an event,” he stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to gradually expanding economic activity around the clock.
According to the Majority Leader, the growing number of businesses running three shifts demonstrates that the policy is taking root and yielding tangible results. Filling stations, he noted, have been among the early adopters, keeping their doors open and their pumps running through the night to serve motorists and businesses alike. Factories, too, are increasingly embracing round-the-clock operations, boosting production capacity and creating employment opportunities in the process.
The 24-hour economy policy is designed to maximize the use of the country’s resources, infrastructure, and human capital by encouraging businesses to operate beyond traditional working hours. Proponents argue that it will stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and improve service delivery across key sectors.
Agalga’s remarks suggest that the policy is progressing steadily, with more businesses expected to join the shift-based model in the coming months. He called on stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that its success depends on collaboration between government, the private sector, and the workforce.
While some critics have questioned the practicality of the policy and its impact on workers’ welfare, the Majority Leader’s update paints a picture of an economy gradually adapting to a new rhythm. With over 300 filling stations and hundreds of factories already running three shifts, the government appears determined to prove that the 24-hour economy is more than rhetoric—it is a reality in motion.
