Gachagua Alleges Ruto Wanted Him Intercepted, Reveals How He Avoided Airport Security

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has explained why he secretly returned to Kenya from the United States without informing his personal driver, security team or supporters.

Gachagua revealed that his decision to keep his arrival under wraps was influenced by intelligence reports he allegedly received from the National Intelligence Service (NIS), warning him of a possible threat to his life.

Speaking during an interview with Inooro TV on Sunday, November 1, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader claimed that President William Ruto had allegedly deployed security officers to intercept him upon his arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

According to Gachagua, the intelligence briefing prompted him to change his travel arrangements and return to the country a day earlier than expected.

He explained that he deliberately avoided informing people close to him about his arrival, opting for an ordinary vehicle to avoid attracting attention.

“I returned from the USA and did not tell anybody, not even my personal driver or security. I arrived privately with no photos, boarded a Probox, and headed straight to Wamunyoro residence,” Gachagua stated.

The former deputy president further alleged that police officers, General Service Unit (GSU) personnel and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers had been deployed to wait for him at the airport the following day.

He claimed that the operation failed because he had already arrived in the country without their knowledge.

Gachagua also alleged that NIS regularly briefs him about developments within the government, claiming he receives information about Ruto’s plans.

His latest remarks come amid an increasingly bitter political fallout with the president following his impeachment in October 2024.

His latest homecoming was markedly different from his previous return in August 2025, when large crowds of supporters gathered at JKIA, disrupting airport operations and prompting police to use teargas to disperse them.
