Didi Wamukoya: The Accomplished Woman Behind Senator Edwin Sifuna.

While Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is widely known for his outspoken nature and active involvement in Kenyan politics, his wife, Didi Wamukoya, has also built an impressive career away from the political spotlight.

Didi is a seasoned Kenyan lawyer, environmental conservation expert and author. She has established herself through years of work in environmental law, wildlife protection and the fight against illegal wildlife trade.

Unlike her husband, who frequently appears in public political debates, Didi generally maintains a private lifestyle. However, her professional achievements have continued to attract attention from Kenyans interested in learning more about the woman behind the outspoken senator.

Didi studied law at the University of Nairobi, where she earned her Bachelor of Laws degree. She later obtained a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law and a Master’s degree in Environmental Law from the same university.

She was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 2007, marking the beginning of her professional journey in the legal sector.

Her career has largely focused on protecting wildlife and strengthening the enforcement of laws against wildlife-related crimes.

Didi previously worked at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), where she served in different positions, including Head of Prosecution. She worked at the agency between 2007 and 2015, handling matters involving wildlife offences and supporting efforts to improve the prosecution of people involved in illegal activities against wildlife.

After leaving KWS, she joined the African Wildlife Foundation, where she took up leadership responsibilities in efforts to fight wildlife trafficking across Africa.

Her work involves supporting investigators, prosecutors, wildlife officers and judicial officials through training and other programmes aimed at improving the fight against illegal wildlife trade.

Apart from her legal and conservation work, Didi is also an author. She co-authored the 2015 publication Natural Resources and Environmental Justice in Kenya, which examines issues surrounding environmental protection and the management of natural resources.

She has also written fictional works, showing her interest in literature beyond her professional career.

Didi is married to Edwin Sifuna, and the couple formalised their marriage in 2015. They have a daughter and generally keep their family life away from public attention.
