Calls Grow for Politicians and Commentators to Stop Turning Javits Frimpong’s Death Into Politics
The death of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong in the United States has sparked fresh debate in Ghana, with concerns being raised over attempts to turn the tragedy into a political argument.
Criticism has been directed at political commentators and supporters of rival parties who have allegedly allowed the incident to become part of the ongoing NPP-NDC political rivalry rather than focusing on the grieving family and the search for justice.
The criticism follows reports that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia reached out to console the family following the teenager’s death. His gesture has been described by some as an expression of compassion at a difficult time for the bereaved family.
However, discussions surrounding the tragedy have reportedly shifted towards political arguments, prompting concerns that the family’s loss is being used to score political points.
One critic expressed frustration over comments attributed to political commentator Koka, questioning why individuals would introduce unnecessary personal and political attacks into a matter involving the death of a child.
The critic also called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take concerns surrounding the incident seriously, insisting that the matter should not be treated as an opportunity for political competition.
The central message was that Javits was someone’s child, and his death deserves compassion, sensitivity and a genuine focus on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The criticism further emphasised that the family’s grief should not be overshadowed by arguments about which political party deserves credit or blame.
While political figures and commentators may express their views, the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and the family’s need for support remain separate from party-political disagreements.
The call is for public discussions to prioritise humanity, respect for the grieving family and the pursuit of justice rather than allowing the tragedy to become another source of political confrontation.
