Borno To Spend N800m On Fifteen Tables, Twenty Chairs
The Borno State Government has earmarked N800 million for the purchase of 15 executive tables and 20 executive chairs for the stateâs Ministry of Finance, according to the governmentâs 2026 budget document reviewed for this report.
The budget performance document, which details the state governmentâs capital expenditure by project, lists the estimated furniture purchase among several projects in the 2026 fiscal year.
The allocation means the government has made provision for N800 million worth of executive furniture, although the report does not provide details of the specifications, individual unit prices or procurement arrangements for the 35 items.
Analysis shows that each chair is expected to cost N22.857 million on the average while each table is also expected to cost N22.857 million on an average.
Meanwhile, the Borno State Debt Management Office, for instance, budgeted N3.5 million for 15 executive tables, 15 executive swivel chairs and 30 other items. It had spent N1.885 million on the project by the third quarter, representing 53.9 per cent of the allocation.
Similarly, the Borno State Internal Revenue Service earmarked N5 million for 15 executive tables, 15 executive swivel chairs and 30 other items, although no expenditure had been recorded against the allocation by the end of the third quarter.
The proposed N800 million expenditure comes amid other substantial allocations to the Ministry of Finance, including N8.6 billion for the purchase of 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles, 20 Toyota Hiace buses and 20 other vehicles.
The report shows that the government had spent N2.83 billion on the vehicle procurement project as of the third quarter, representing 33 per cent of the N8.6 billion budgeted for it.
The ministry also budgeted N110 million for advocacy to ensure the timely release of funds for food and nutrition, as well as N100 million to support the implementation of a related policy.
Beyond the Ministry of Finance, the report contains other allocations for office furniture across government agencies, although the amounts earmarked for these items are substantially lower than the finance ministryâs N800 million provision.
In a separate development, this newspaper had earlier reported that the House of Assembly of another Nigerian State, Bauchi, plans to splash N100 million on ten office tables and ten chairs.
This development is based on a review of the Bauchi State 2026 budget document.
But while the House of Assembly Commission plans N100 million for ten office tables and chairs, the Ministry of Finance budgeted only N50 million for a higher quantity of 25s units of âexecutive tables and chairsâ.
The description reads âPurchase of 10 Nos of Office Chairs and 10 Nos of Office Tables for Bauchi State House of Assembly Commissionâ with the budgeted amount of N100 million.
