According to a Post on Joseph Oppong official facebook account on Tuesday, November 3,2026,Ghanaian political commentator Joseph Oppong has criticised the government of President John Dramani Mahama over what he describes as its failure to introduce promised tax exemptions for businesses, particularly start-ups and young entrepreneurs.

In a Facebook post, Oppong recalled that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while in opposition in 2024, promised to introduce tax exemptions to support businesses. However, he claimed that nearly two years into the administration, no new exemptions had been introduced.

He further alleged that the government had gone beyond failing to fulfil its promise by cancelling some existing tax exemptions introduced under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

According to Oppong, the situation has placed considerable financial pressure on start-ups, entrepreneurs and other businesses struggling to meet their tax obligations.

He accused President Mahama of misleading Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign, arguing that the promise of tax relief for businesses has not translated into meaningful action since the NDC assumed office.

Oppong also called on Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to introduce tax exemptions specifically designed to support young businesses, stressing that such enterprises need adequate incentives to survive, expand and eventually become major contributors to national revenue.

To support his argument, the commentator referenced the five-year tax exemption incentive reportedly provided to start-ups under the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) during the Akufo-Addo administration.

He questioned what had happened to the initiative and why similar support measures were not being maintained or strengthened to encourage entrepreneurship and business development.
