On Tuesday, 3 November, the state called bank witnesses to testify on suspicious transactions that happened on 11 February 2023 – one day after AKA and Tibz were gunned down outside the Wish on Florida restaurant in Durban, KZN.
State witness from First National Bank (FNB), Ashley Wilson, who testified via camera, told the court accused number four Mziwethemba Gwabeni’s virtual bank card was used to pay R28 at King Shaka International Airport at 2.54pm on the day AKA was murdered.

According to Wilson, a whopping R803 455.00 was deposited into Gwabeni’s account by Bright Circle (PTY) LTD on 11 February at about 2pm – the day after the murders.
Within hours, between 6pm and 8pm, Gwabeni paid other accused using references like “dividends” or “Gwabs mining”.
Wilson also revealed that Gwabeni’s card was used to pay R300 at Caltex Nela Kahle service station in Umlazi at 11.25pm.
The court heard that many of the accused use Capitec Bank for their banking.
Capitec Bank forensic investigator Ashley Soomaroo, who was granted permission by the court not to show his face, confirmed the accused’s bank accounts and traced the transactions.
