ADC Coalition Is Coming To Rescue This Country From Prodigal Spending And Abuse Of Office — Melaye

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has expressed confidence that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition can provide an alternative leadership capable of addressing wasteful government expenditure and alleged abuse of public office in Nigeria.

According to Arise TV on Monday, November 2, 2026, Melaye made the remarks during a television interview, where he criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over its handling of public finances and the rising cost of governance.

The former lawmaker argued that Nigerians were increasingly concerned about government spending, accountability and the management of national resources. He maintained that the ADC coalition, which includes prominent opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was positioned to address these challenges.

Emphasising the coalition’s political objectives, Melaye stated, “Nigerians are tired and the ADC coalition is coming to rescue this country from prodigal spending and abuse of office.”

He also accused the current administration of failing to fulfil its commitment to reducing the cost of governance. As an example, he cited the reported increase in the service-wide vote from ₦2 trillion to ₦12 trillion within three years.

Melaye explained that an ADC-led government would focus on reducing government expenditure, protecting the independence of the National Assembly and ensuring that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts credible elections.

He further stressed that public resources should be directed towards improving citizens’ welfare rather than serving political interests or financing electoral ambitions.

The former senator urged Nigerians to support the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that meaningful national development would require stronger accountability and responsible management of public funds.

He also maintained that an independent legislature and an impartial electoral commission were essential to protecting democratic institutions and strengthening governance in the country.
