Ablakwa Takes NPP Communicator & Media General to Court Over Shôckîng Fantana & Houses Allegations

Ghana’s political space has been thrown into another major controversy after Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reportedly took legal action against NPP communicator Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah and Media General over allegations linking him to musician Fantana.

The controversy started after Gyewu-Appiah appeared on Onua FM, where he made serious allegations against the minister concerning money allocated for the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa following xenophobic attacks.

During the discussion, the NPP communicator alleged that Ablakwa diverted money meant to support the evacuation exercise and used the funds for musician Fantana, whom he claimed was romantically involved with the minister.

Gyewu-Appiah reportedly made several other serious claims, describing Ablakwa as a thief and alleging that the minister and his wife could eventually face imprisonment.

He also claimed that the minister had purchased 17 houses for Fantana using the money allegedly taken from the evacuation funds. However, these claims remain allegations and have not been established as facts.

The comments quickly generated public reactions, particularly because they involved public funds, a serving government minister and a popular Ghanaian musician.

Fantana also expressed anger over the allegations and threatened legal action against the NPP communicator, describing the claims as false.

Now, Ablakwa has reportedly decided to pursue the matter in court by suing both Gyewu-Appiah and Media General, the media organisation behind Onua FM. The reported lawsuit is connected to the statements made during the radio broadcast.

The development has opened another chapter in the ongoing controversy surrounding the South Africa evacuation exercise.

Meanwhile, questions have continued to emerge about the expenditure, with the Minority calling for an independent investigation into the reported GH¢49.72 million cost of the exercise. Ablakwa has denied financial wrongdoing and defended the payments made to evacuees.

The big question now is what evidence will be presented when the legal battle moves forward.
