2027: Tear My Certificate If I’m Wrong. Only 3 Candidates Are Contesting 2027 Election -Omotola

Political analyst Lai Omotola has argued that only three politicians have the national political influence and organisational strength to seriously compete for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

According to remarks made on Symfoni TV on Monday, November 2, 2026, Omotola identified President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as the leading contenders in the race.

He maintained that the three politicians possess established political structures, strong support bases and the capacity to attract votes across the country, while several other presidential aspirants lack the necessary grassroots influence.

Omotola described some of the other southern candidates as articulate individuals who perform well during television interviews but have little chance of winning elections in their own states or local government areas.

He questioned the political strength of one unnamed candidate, saying he was unsure whether the politician came from Oyo State but doubted that he could secure a meaningful victory there because of his alleged lack of grassroots support.

The analyst insisted that he was certain of his assessment, challenging the candidate to prove him wrong by securing 500,000 votes in Oyo State. He even invited the politician to publicly tear up his certificate if he managed to achieve that figure.

Omotola further questioned how such candidates expected to attract hundreds of thousands of votes when, according to him, they lacked the structures needed to mobilise supporters at ward level.

He acknowledged that the other aspirants might be useful in forcing the major contenders to address important national issues, but insisted that they should not be regarded as serious threats to the leading candidates.

Speaking about the political experience of the three politicians, Omotola noted that Atiku had been involved in presidential contests since 1993, while Obi had built a political profile since his time as governor of Anambra State.

He described both men, alongside Tinubu, as experienced political figures with established reputations and influence, arguing that other candidates would struggle to match their standing.

Omotola also expressed the view that Nigeria might have progressed faster if Tinubu had become president when he first emerged as Lagos State governor. He added that although events unfold according to God’s plans, the other presidential aspirants should not be mistaken for the leading contenders.

He concluded that the 2027 presidential contest would largely revolve around Tinubu, Atiku and Obi, whom he considers the three dominant figures in the race.
