The promoter, Sicelo Sibiya, is accusing Zodwa of failing to show up at two events on 26 September in Nongoma and 10 October in Durban, KZN.
Sicelo claimed he paid R27 600 for bookings, flights, hotel accommodation and other costs for Zodwa.
Sicelo spoke to Daily Sun about the matter and said he and Zodwa had met face-to-face and made a verbal agreement, and nothing on paper.
āShe called me to go to her home; we went and did the promotion. I did the adverts and even went to the media and podcasts to promote the events. I did the payment.
āI prepared a notification letter for her to sign when she arrived at the event. That document explained what was supposed to happen. There was no animosity, and nothing went wrong,ā he said.
On the day of the event, Zodwa never showed up.
āWhen I called her, she said her flight had left without her. She then said the flight was fully booked, which shocked me as everything was well-planned. People were upset because Zodwa wasnāt there,ā he said.
āI asked her to send a video, speak to the people and tell them why she wasnāt there, which she did.ā

Sicelo said they then made plans to book her for the 10 October event, but she again failed to show up.
āI booked her again for another event, and this time, she didnāt even communicate. I asked her what the problem was. To this day, I havenāt heard what the issue was. She hasnāt been communicating with me. Iām confused.
āI asked her for a refund, but she didnāt even say sorry. So, I decided to serve her with a letter of demand. She doesnāt want to give me my money. I spent over R600 000 on this event, and I canāt claim all of it from her, but want some repayment,ā said Sicelo.
For her part, Zodwa told Daily Sun Sicelo didnāt fully pay.
āIād charged him R30 000, and he only paid R13 000. Everything was going well between us, especially with the planning. He even came to my house, and we filmed a video to promote the event.
āHowever, I wasnāt going to travel all the way to Nongoma for a gig I hadnāt been fully paid for. On the day of the show, I asked him to, at least, send me travel money, he only sent R2 000, which wasnāt going to be enough for flights,ā she said.
Zodwa said she also agreed to perform for less than her standard fee.
āI took the gig because times are tough right now, and Iām taking any gig that comes my way. Iām not picky. However, I wasnāt going to spend my own money to travel from Gauteng to KZN,ā said Zodwa.
She also maintained she wouldnāt refund him.
āWe agreed on R20 000, not R30 000 as sheās saying. Sheās trying to run away from the truth by adding information thatās untrue. I want my money back,ā he added.
