You Hoarded Gold Like Dry Fish And Saying What Today? Give Us Full IMF Report Interpretation —Oppong
Jennifer Oppong has reacted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report outlining financial losses recorded by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), criticising the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she considers an inconsistent position on the matter.
In a Facebook post, Oppong questioned why some NPP members were expressing outrage over the reported losses when their own administration had previously faced allegations concerning the management of Ghana’s gold resources.
“Those who gave all our gold to one person to display on his TV station are complaining about losses? You hoarded gold like dry fish and saying what today? Give us the full IMF report interpretation,” she wrote.
Her comments come amid growing political debate following the IMF’s assessment of GoldBod’s financial performance, which has raised questions about accountability and the management of Ghana’s gold sector.
Oppong argued that those criticising the current management of GoldBod should first account for decisions made under the previous administration before condemning the institution’s present leadership.
She also called for a comprehensive explanation of the IMF report, insisting that Ghanaians deserve a clear and balanced understanding of the findings and the circumstances surrounding the reported financial losses.
The IMF report has generated mixed reactions, with members and supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP presenting differing interpretations of its findings and possible implications for the country’s economy.
As the debate continues, Oppong’s comments have added to the wider discussion about transparency, accountability and responsible management of Ghana’s natural resources.
