Worawora Paramount Chief calls for Nursing Training School and Hospital upgrade

The Paramount Chief of the Worawora Traditional Council in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, Dasebre Sarfo Baah III, has appealed to the government to establish a nursing training school in the area to strengthen healthcare delivery and create employment opportunities for the youth.

According to him, the establishment of the institution would provide young people in the district and surrounding communities with the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing while helping to address the shortage of trained health professionals in the region.

Dasebre Sarfo Baah III noted that the Worawora Government Hospital serves not only residents of Worawora but also communities across the Oti Region and neighbouring areas.

He said the increasing number of patients had placed significant pressure on the hospital’s existing infrastructure, equipment, and staff.

The paramount chief made the appeal during the historic celebration of the Akwantutenten festival to mark the journey and pains of their forebears’ migration from the Asante Region.

He therefore urged the government to upgrade the Worawora Government Hospital to a regional hospital and provide it with the qq infrastructure, medical equipment, and personnel to meet the growing healthcare needs of the people.

The hospital, which also hosts the Oti Regional Health Directorate, currently lacks adequate facilities to effectively respond to the increasing demand for medical services.

The Paramount Chief said improving the hospital’s capacity would enable residents within the region to access quality treatment without travelling long distances.

The queen of the Worawora Traditional Council, Nana Abena Sarfoa Awerewaa, also supported the call for the establishment of a nursing training institution in the district.

She said the people of Worawora had, over 13 years, contributed significantly to the development of the area and deserved a fulfilling investment in education, healthcare and employment.

Nana Abenela Sarfoa Awerewaa explained that a nursing training school would complement existing healthcare efforts while empowering young people with professional skills and creating new opportunities for the local population.

She appealed to the government and other stakeholders to consider the proposal and collaborate with the traditional council to improve healthcare and human resource development in the area.

The queen mother also advised the youth in the area to take their studies seriously since they have better opportunity education.
