The Old Man Who Shot And Killed Two Persons At Sakumono Arrested – Ghanaians React

As at November 2, 2026, Ghanaians have taken to social media to react to news of the arrest of a 72-year-old man suspected of killing two persons at the NTHC Estate in Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a press release from the Ghana Police Service, the Ashanti Regional Police Command arrested the suspect, identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, at his hideout at Tikrom near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. The arrest follows an earlier press release by the Accra Regional Police Command in October 2026 concerning the murder of Irene Atuguba, aged 47, and George Atuguba.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the killings stemmed from a financial dispute between the late George Atuguba and the suspect, who reportedly borrowed GH¢500,000.00 but failed to repay it. Acting on intelligence about his whereabouts, a police team proceeded to the location and apprehended him. A Smith & Wesson pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition was retrieved from him. He remains in police custody assisting investigations, while the weapon and ammunition have been retained as exhibits.

The reaction online has been largely one of praise for the Ghana Police Service. Many commended the officers for their swift work and professionalism in tracking down the suspect. Others expressed relief that he was found, with several remarking that no fugitive can hide forever.

Beyond the commendations, some social media users focused on the suspect’s age, with many shocked that a person of 72 could be linked to such a serious crime. A few also questioned the details of his age, while others voiced sympathy for the bereaved family over the unrecovered GH¢500,000.

Many Ghanaians also expressed the opinion that, if found guilty, the suspect should face the full rigours of the law, noting that the case involves a double homicide. Others expressed surprise that he had been hiding in a different region, as some residents of the area said they never imagined a suspect could be living close to them.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing.
