South Africans React as Ramaphosa Makes a Stunning Claim About the ANC Ahead of Elections

Speaking at the ANC’s Siyanqoba rally at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, Ramaphosa defended the party’s historical contribution and its record in government, while encouraging voters to reflect on the progress made since the end of apartheid.

The ANC president acknowledged that his organisation had experienced shortcomings but argued that its overall contribution to South African society remained greater than that of its political competitors.

He urged voters not to judge the party exclusively by its failures, but also to consider the changes it had helped bring about over the years.

Ramaphosa also placed service delivery at the centre of his election message, reminding supporters that local government elections directly affect people’s everyday lives.

He highlighted essential services such as reliable water supplies, functioning streetlights, proper refuse collection and improved municipal infrastructure.

According to the President, the elections will determine whether communities have capable leadership that can improve living conditions and create opportunities for residents.

However, his comments come against a background of growing public frustration over unemployment, poverty, unreliable water supplies, deteriorating roads and municipal governance challenges.

The ANC has faced increasing competition from opposition parties, particularly in major metropolitan areas where service delivery failures have become important election issues.

Ramaphosa acknowledged these concerns, saying the party had listened to communities during its campaign and understood the difficulties facing ordinary South Africans.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve electricity supply, strengthen water infrastructure and expand economic opportunities.

Among the ANC’s major campaign promises is the creation of one million work, training and enterprise opportunities during the next term, including apprenticeships, learnerships and graduate internships.

The President further criticised opposition-led municipalities, questioning whether their service delivery benefits all communities equally.

Nevertheless, his claims are likely to face scrutiny from opposition parties and voters who believe political parties should be judged primarily on their performance rather than historical achievements.

With South Africans preparing to elect municipal representatives, the ANC faces an important test of public confidence.

Ultimately, voters will decide whether Ramaphosa’s confidence in the party’s record translates into support at the ballot box. The election could provide a significant indication of whether the ANC can rebuild its support or whether frustrated communities are ready to give other political parties an opportunity to govern.
