SASSA Changes November Grant Payment Dates as Millions of Beneficiaries Prepare for Election Week
Millions of South Africans who depend on social grants are facing an adjusted payment schedule this November, following a decision by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to move selected payment dates ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The revised arrangement is intended to prevent disruptions during election week, with voting scheduled for Wednesday, 4 November 2026, which has been declared a public holiday.
According to an announcement published by the South African Government News Agency (SAnews) on 15 October, National Treasury approved the revised payment arrangements following consultations between SASSA and relevant stakeholders.
Under the updated schedule, older persons’ grants were paid on Friday, 30 October, while disability grants are scheduled for Monday, 2 November.
Beneficiaries receiving children’s grants are scheduled to receive their payments on Tuesday, 3 November.
SASSA has also allocated Thursday, 5 November, specifically for beneficiaries whose grants are undergoing reviews.
Beneficiaries urged to respond to review notifications.
Beyond the adjusted payment dates, SASSA has reminded beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond to official notifications and attend in-person appointments when requested.
The agency has warned beneficiaries against ignoring review communications, as failure to comply with review requirements could affect their grant payments.
SASSA has also advised recipients against visiting its offices unnecessarily, encouraging them to use official communication channels to obtain accurate information about their grants.
The November adjustment is a once-off arrangement introduced to accommodate the local government elections.
SASSA has clarified that the revised dates do not represent a permanent change to the usual social grant payment calendar.
The agency has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries continue receiving their financial assistance in an orderly and secure manner.
For millions of households that rely on social grants to cover food, transport, electricity and other essential expenses, understanding the revised payment schedule is particularly important.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to verify their payment information through official SASSA communication platforms and remain alert to misleading messages circulating on social media.
