Otiende Tells Luo Leaders Raila Only Promised Ruto Support Until 2027, Asks Why They Are Desperate
Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has insisted that the late Raila Odinga only committed ODM to working with President William Ruto’s government until 2027 and not beyond. He also questioned the eagerness of Luo leaders to please the administration.
In remarks shared widely on social media on Monday Amollo said the former Prime Minister never extended the arrangement past the next election. He asked why the community was so desperate to please.
“Raila only said we would work with Ruto until 2027 and not beyond. Mt Kenya has 8 Cabinet Secretaries and we have 2. They have 12 PSs and we have 4. They even have a DP yet they are not Ruto’s sycophants the way we are,” Amollo said.
The comments revive his earlier position after the death of Raila. He has maintained that only the late leader’s public statements should be trusted. He has dismissed claims of private assurances of long-term support for Ruto and insisted that the living must decide the path after 2027.
The remarks highlight tensions within ODM and the Luo community over the broad-based government arrangement. Some party figures want continued cooperation with Kenya Kwanza into the 2027 elections. Others including voices aligned with James Orengo favour independent options.
Amollo’s comparison of appointments points to perceptions of uneven power-sharing. He argues that the Mount Kenya region holds far more senior positions despite a less subservient political posture.
The statement comes as the country edges closer to the 2027 general election. Debate is growing over whether ODM will field its own presidential candidate or back Ruto. The party could also explore alternative alliances.
Public reaction on social media has been mixed. It reflects deeper fractures in opposition and regional politics.
