Nyinahin’s $17.5bn Bauxite Deposits Could Create 98,000 Jobs as Government Courts Investors

According to a report by 3News published on November 1, 2026, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Ibrahim Issahak, has assured residents that the government is committed to attracting investors to develop the estimated $17.5 billion bauxite deposits in Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region.

The assurance followed a meeting between the DCE, a delegation from the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and a foreign investor from Guinea, ORG Technology, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The delegation was led by Maxwell Essien, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC. The engagement focused on the potential of the Nyinahin bauxite deposits and the need to secure investors to support their extraction and development.

According to the report, the deposits are estimated to be worth approximately $17.5 billion and have the potential to generate close to 98,000 jobs. Nyinahin is also regarded as one of Ghana’s leading bauxite prospects and among the largest in Africa.

Ibrahim Issahak expressed satisfaction with the engagement, describing the bauxite industry as an important opportunity to create employment, generate wealth and support economic growth in the district and the country.

He said the government would make efforts to identify investors capable of leading the Integrated Aluminium Project, which includes plans to establish an alumina refinery at Nyinahin.

Under the proposed arrangement, bauxite extracted from the area would be processed into alumina at the refinery. The alumina would subsequently be supplied to the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) for conversion into aluminium for use by downstream industries.

The DCE also commended President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to reviving the Nyinahin bauxite project, adding that the industry would be treated as a priority.

The latest engagement comes amid renewed efforts to attract international investment into Ghana’s aluminium industry. However, the report did not indicate that ORG Technology had signed an agreement or made a formal financial commitment to the project.

If successfully developed, the project could support Ghana’s ambition to move beyond exporting raw bauxite towards processing more of the mineral locally and expanding its aluminium industry.
