Muturi Takes On Gachagua A Day After Matiang’i Accused The Ex DP Of Arrogance And Pride In The Camp

Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has issued a strong rebuke to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He urged him to stop political bullying double-speak and self-sabotage within the opposition.

In a statement titled Kenya Is Bigger Than Any One Politician Muturi declared that no Kenyan president has ever been elected by one community alone. He stressed that the presidency is won through national consensus and strategic alliances. It also requires the ability to unite Kenyans across ethnic and regional lines.

Muturi questioned Gachagua’s commitment to the collective presidential ambition of the Wantam movement. He criticised the DCP leader’s attempts to undermine established cooperation and his insistence on tripartite political arrangements.

He warned that this creates the impression of preparing for post-election bargaining rather than prioritising victory at State House.

“Is the objective to win the presidency or to control MPs legislators and devolved units while sacrificing the bigger national ambition?” Muturi asked.

He reminded Gachagua of his family’s political history. He noted that his late brother Nderitu Gachagua won the Nyeri gubernatorial contest against TNA despite GNU support.

Muturi cautioned that fragmenting the opposition raises serious questions about the political direction being pursued. He emphasised that Komboa Kenya is not child’s play and requires sacrifice and discipline.

The Democratic Party he said remains ready for dialogue with those committed to constructive solutions. However it will not yield to mischief or intimidation.

The statement comes a day after Jubilee leader Fred Matiang’i warned that Gachagua’s approach risks splitting the opposition. Matiang’i described it as majoritarian arrogance and pride that makes unity difficult ahead of 2027.

Muturi concluded State House must not be sacrificed at the altar of individual political survival. The opposition faces a test.
