I prefer El Clasico to Ghana Premier League matches – Bechem United president
President of Bechem United, Kingsley Owusu Achau, has criticised the appeal of the Ghana Premier League, admitting he would rather watch a high-profile European fixture than a domestic match when the two are played simultaneously.
Owusu Achau believes the local top flight has struggled to attract football fans, citing a lack of excitement and concerns over the scheduling of matches as some of the factors affecting its popularity.
Speaking in an interview with Hot FM, the Bechem United president was candid about his preference for European football over the domestic competition.
“I would rather watch El Clasico than a local match when they are playing at the same time; the local league is not attractive,” he said.
His comments further highlight the challenges facing the Ghana Premier League as stakeholders continue to explore ways of improving its appeal and attracting more supporters to the various stadia.
Meanwhile, following the conclusion of Matchday 9, attention will shift to Matchday 10, with fixtures scheduled to take place at venues across the country this weekend.
Bechem United will host FC Samartex at the Nana Gyeabour Park as Owusu Achau’s side looks to secure a positive result in front of their home supporters.
