“Ghanaians Will Have a Good Christmas” – BoG Governor Asiama Makes Major Cedi Assurance
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, has expressed confidence in the stability of the Ghanaian cedi, assuring the public of a favourable exchange-rate situation during the upcoming Christmas season.
Dr Asiama gave the assurance while speaking at the African Virtual Assets Summit (AVAS) 2026 on Monday, November 2, 2026, against the backdrop of public concerns over exchange-rate fluctuations and their potential impact on businesses and consumers.
He expressed optimism that the local currency would perform well in the coming weeks, indicating that Ghanaians could expect a relatively stable exchange-rate environment throughout the festive period.
“What I can promise is a good Christmas as far as the exchange rate is concerned. We will have a good Christmas,” he said.
The Governor’s comments come as the latest interbank exchange rates released by the Bank of Ghana show the cedi trading at GH¢11.6142 to the US dollar for buying and GH¢11.6258 for selling.
The figures, published by Channel One Research Desk on Monday, November 2, 2026, are based on average interbank rates recorded at the close of business on Friday, October 30.
The central bank’s reference rates also placed the British pound at GH¢15.5549 for buying and GH¢15.5704 for selling.
Meanwhile, the euro was quoted at GH¢12.9559 for buying and GH¢12.9678 for selling, according to the latest Bank of Ghana figures.
