Former Police Officer Turned Landlady Who Went Viral For Mercilessly Beating Her Tenants Arrested

A former police officer who became a landlady near UPSA in Accra has been arrested after a video of her mercilessly beating and harassing her tenants went viral on social media.

The woman, who once swore to protect lives, was picked up by officers from the UPSA Police Station after months of alleged abuse came to light.

The arrest followed a brave report by one of her tenants, a lady identified only as Lordina. Lordina went online to narrate how living in the landlady’s house had become a nightmare.

In the viral video that has shocked many Ghanaians, the ex-policewoman is seen shouting, struggling and resisting arrest. She refused to be handcuffed and fought the police officers who came to pick her up. She was eventually overpowered, handcuffed and whisked away in a police vehicle.

But beating tenants is just one part of the story.

Tenants accuse her of a long list of cruel acts:

First, they say she changed the locks on the main entrance gate. This was to prevent tenants who had already paid their rent from entering their own rooms. Some tenants reportedly came back from work or school only to find they had been locked out.

Second, they accuse her of deliberately cutting off their water supply. This happened even though the tenants had already paid their water bills. For days, they had no water to bath, cook or wash.

Third, tenants allege constant physical and verbal abuse, intimidation and threats inside the house.

Lordina also alleged that the landlady’s dog has bitten tenants on several occasions. When victims complained, she reportedly brushed it off, claiming the dog was only playing. She allegedly told those bitten to just apply hot water to the wound because the dog had been vaccinated against rabies.

The video of her arrest has sparked serious anger on social media. Many people, especially students who rent around UPSA, Legon and other parts of Accra, say this is the daily abuse many tenants face from landlords with no one to defend them.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to announce the specific charges she will face as investigations continue.
