DCS Exposes The Shocking Truth Behind Brown Mogotsi’s “Court Escape” Uniform Scandal
Correctional Services Finds No Evidence of Brown Mogotsi’s Alleged Court Escape Plan
Correctional Services Makes Major Revelation About Brown Mogotsi’s Alleged Escape Plan
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has reportedly found no evidence to support allegations that businessman Brown Mogotsi planned to escape from the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 20 August 2026 by disguising himself as a correctional services official.
The development raises fresh questions about the allegations that emerged during Mogotsi’s latest attempt to secure bail, placing the spotlight on the evidence initially presented by the State and the circumstances surrounding the alleged escape plan.
The claims surfaced during Mogotsi’s fourth bail application, when the State informed the court that correctional authorities had allegedly received information suggesting that he intended to escape from the court holding cells.
According to an affidavit by investigating officer Lieutenant-Colonel Alfred Odendaal, he was alerted to the alleged plan by a correctional services official from the Johannesburg Correctional Services Centre on the morning of 20 August.
The information allegedly suggested that Mogotsi intended to wear a correctional services uniform and walk out of the court cells without being recognised.
Following the warning, additional security precautions were reportedly introduced to prevent the alleged escape. Mogotsi appeared in court with leg irons around his ankles, a measure that became part of the controversy surrounding the claims.
However, the latest findings indicating that investigators found no supporting evidence could significantly affect how the allegation is viewed as the legal proceedings continue.
Mogotsi has consistently denied planning to escape from custody. His legal representatives have questioned the basis of the allegations, arguing that no evidence had been presented showing that a correctional services uniform had been prepared or that arrangements had been made to help him leave the court.
The defence has also maintained that the allegations were unsubstantiated and should not be used to prejudice his bail application.
The controversy emerged at a sensitive stage of Mogotsi’s legal battle, with the State opposing his release and raising concerns about whether he would remain available to stand trial if granted bail.
Mogotsi faces several criminal charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, and perjury.
The charges relate to an incident reported in Vosloorus on 3 November 2025, when Mogotsi allegedly told police that unknown individuals had chased him and fired shots at his vehicle. The State subsequently alleged that he staged the incident, accusations he has contested.
The reported findings concerning the alleged escape plan do not resolve the separate criminal charges against him. Those matters remain subject to the legal process.
The latest development is likely to intensify scrutiny of the evidence presented during Mogotsi’s bail proceedings and the reliability of the information initially communicated to investigators.
For now, the central issue is whether the alleged escape plot can be substantiated by credible evidence rather than unverified claims.
