Chiefs Coach Drops Shocking Bombshell on Star Player

Da Cruz Reveals Why Ighodaro Is Struggling to Get Game Time at Kaizer Chiefs

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 2 NOVEMBER 2026

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has provided an explanation for why Nigerian forward Ighodaro has struggled to secure regular playing time, admitting that the 25-year-old is still finding it difficult to adapt to the club’s tactical system.

The Chiefs coach made the revelation while discussing the striker’s current situation, making it clear that his limited involvement is not necessarily a reflection of his ability but rather the time he needs to understand the team’s football philosophy.

Speaking through a translator, Da Cruz explained that Ighodaro is yet to fully grasp the demands of the game model he wants his players to implement.

“Ighodaro is 25 years old, so it’s difficult for him to assimilate the way we play,” Da Cruz stated.

The French tactician further acknowledged that the technical team is working with the forward to improve his understanding of the system. However, he warned that the player is not yet ready to become a regular option in the starting line-up.

“At the moment, he has a lack of understanding of the game-model. We work with him, and he could be another solution, but right now he’s not ready,” Da Cruz added.
