Boy in Kejetia Market, has been duped by a street phone dealer during an attempted phone exchange
According to report by Dunkwatv on Monday 2, November 2026, a young boy from Lapaz in Accra has reportedly fallen victim to a phone scam at Kumasi’s Kejetia Market after attempting to exchange his Samsung Galaxy A15 for an iPhone 13.
According to reports, the boy travelled to the popular Kejetia Market, where he encountered a street phone dealer who allegedly offered to exchange his Samsung Galaxy A15 for an iPhone 13. The deal reportedly appeared attractive to the young boy, who agreed to the proposed exchange after negotiations with the dealer.
As part of the transaction, the boy handed over his Samsung Galaxy A15 smartphone and added GH¢300 in cash to complete the deal. He reportedly believed he was getting a genuine iPhone 13 in return for his phone and the additional money.
However, what was supposed to be a successful phone exchange allegedly turned into a disappointing experience when he discovered that the dealer had not given him an actual iPhone.
Instead of receiving the promised iPhone 13, the boy was reportedly handed a phone cover containing only a piece of screen glass. The discovery meant that he had lost both his Samsung Galaxy A15 and the GH¢300 he added to the transaction.
The incident has raised concerns about the activities of some street phone dealers who allegedly use deceptive tactics to exploit unsuspecting customers, particularly young people who may not be familiar with such schemes.
The incident also serves as a warning to individuals who engage in phone exchanges with unknown dealers in busy markets without properly inspecting the devices before completing transactions.
Consumers are being encouraged to exercise caution when purchasing or exchanging mobile phones, especially when dealing with street vendors. They should insist on physically inspecting and testing devices, verifying their authenticity and confirming that all agreed items have been received before handing over their money or personal belongings.
The alleged incident highlights the importance of being vigilant when conducting electronic transactions to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
