Before the solo stars took over

There was a time when music groups dominated Ghana’s airwaves, churning out hit after hit and becoming household names in the process.

From highlife and hiplife to gospel and contemporary music, these groups brought energy, chemistry and distinctive sounds to Ghana’s music scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

While many have since gone their separate ways, pursued solo careers or disappeared from the spotlight, their songs remain part of the soundtrack of a memorable era in Ghanaian music.
