Bank of Ghana Governor announces AI-assisted CCTV project for St Peter’s and St Roses schools
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has announced plans to install artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted CCTV cameras at St Peter’s Senior High School, Nkwatia, and St Roses Senior High School, Akwatia, to help improve student safety and security.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer of Virtual Security Africa Ltd (VSA), Mr Emmanuel Asiedu Sekyere, was announced during the launch of the 70th anniversary celebrations of St Peter’s Secondary School.
The project is expected to provide the two schools with surveillance systems that could help deter bullying, sexual harassment and other forms of abuse, while supporting investigations into reported incidents.
The announcement has renewed calls for schools across the country to consider adopting modern security systems to protect students and create safer learning environments.
In a statement following the anniversary launch, a former student of St Peter’s welcomed the initiative and urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) and private schools without CCTV systems to consider installing them.
He said properly deployed cameras could help prevent misconduct and provide useful evidence when incidents occurred.
However, he stressed the need for appropriate safeguards to protect students’ privacy and ensure that surveillance systems were used responsibly.
VSA, which provides CCTV cameras, electronic surveillance systems and cybersecurity solutions, offered to sponsor the initiative.
The project was expected to strengthen security at the two schools and support efforts to protect students from abuse and other threats within school environments.
The former student congratulated Dr Asiama and Mr Asiedu Sekyere on the initiative and commended VSA for its commitment to supporting the schools.

St Peter’s at 70 targets GH¢30 million for new facilities
As part of activities marking its 70th anniversary, St Peter’s Secondary School has set a fundraising target of GH¢30 million to construct a modern kitchen and dining hall complex.
The project is expected to improve facilities for students and provide a better environment for meal preparation and dining.
Old students have been encouraged to contribute generously towards the project to support the school’s development and improve the learning environment for current and future students.
The anniversary celebration provided an opportunity for old students to reflect on the school’s contribution to their lives and consider ways to support its continued growth.
The fundraising initiative is expected to bring together alumni, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to help achieve the target.
The call for contributions also underscored the importance of alumni support in providing schools with the facilities needed to improve student welfare and academic life.
