Adebutu Breaks Silence, Reacts To Exclusion From INEC List As Over 1,000 APC Members Defect To PDP

According to a report by The Vanguard on Monday, November The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has broken his silence regarding the omission of his name from the Independent National Electoral Commission list, dismissing the development as a temporary distraction that will not derail his 2027 ambition.

Speaking in Abeokuta while welcoming over 1,000 defectors from the All Progressives Congress into the PDP, Adebutu maintained that he remains a bona fide member of the opposition party.

He challenged critics questioning his loyalty to provide proof, noting that he has consistently flown the party’s flag across election cycles over the past two decades and holds registration number 1536 from the recent party exercise.

“I have been the candidate of the PDP for the last 20 years, in every election cycle. My question is: at what stage did I leave or vacate the party? Where is the proof that, for one day, I have even visited the APC office, let alone joined the party?” Adebutu queried, alleging that the controversy is a deliberate ploy by opponents to disenfranchise voters.

Despite the setback, Adebutu disclosed that the party’s grassroots campaign remains unstoppable, having already covered 12 of the state’s 20 local governments and over 140 of the 236 wards.

Meanwhile, leader of the defectors, Hon. Segun William, stated that their decision to ditch the ruling party stemmed from disillusionment with its governance style.

The high-profile defection is expected to heavily boost the PDP’s momentum ahead of the fast-approaching 2027 polls in Ogun State.
