2027: Those Opposing Rainbow Coalition Have No Capacity – Wike
The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that any politicians who oppose his Rainbow Coalition lack the ability to unite even their families and communities.
Wike said the coalition, which comprises political stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was formed to promote political cooperation and development ahead of 2027.
He spoke on Monday during the commissioning of the Gwagwalada Civic Centre and an engagement with APC and PDP stakeholders in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja.
Addressing the gathering, the minister praised political leaders in the area for setting aside party differences, arguing that their decision to work together showed a commitment to collective interests rather than personal political ambitions.
Taking a swipe at critics of the alliance, Wike said, “Some greedy and selfish politicians do not understand what we call unity. They have no capacity to hold their space, they have no capacity to even hold their families, and they have no capacity to hold their communities. So they can open their mouths and say there is no Rainbow Coalition.”
He challenged those questioning the coalition to explain why politicians who previously belonged to opposing camps should not work together when they shared common interests.
Wike described the political arrangement in Gwagwalada as a departure from confrontation, insisting that cooperation was necessary to advance the interests of FCT residents.
The minister also urged residents to avoid repeating what he called the mistake of the 2023 general elections, particularly in their choice of representatives at the National Assembly.
He questioned whether the senator representing the FCT adequately understood the challenges facing residents across the six area councils, including Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari, Kwali, Abaji and Abuja Municipal Area Council.
He specifically sought support for former Senator Philip Aduda and other candidates backed by the coalition, stressing the need for elected representatives who remained accessible to their constituents.
Wike also declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, urging coalition members to begin grassroots mobilisation ahead of the polls.
“On the day of the election, it will not be a day for market or fishing. It is the day all of us have decided to come together and demonstrate our strength through our votes. Go to the polling units, districts and communities and mobilise the people to vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
Earlier, FCT APC Chairman, Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, described the gathering as historic, noting that Wike’s intervention had brought together political leaders who previously operated on opposing sides.
Yamawo said individuals who had never considered themselves political allies because of their party affiliations were now working together under a common arrangement in Gwagwalada.
He also credited the minister with reducing political tension in the area, saying political campaigns had become more peaceful, unlike previous periods when vehicles were reportedly destroyed during political activities.
Similarly, FCT PDP Chairman, Ismaila Mohammed Dogara, commended Wike for his development projects in the territory, particularly the revival of a project that had remained abandoned for 16 years in Gwagwalada.
Dogara said the alliance between politicians from different parties reflected the minister’s efforts to foster cooperation among political stakeholders.
The Aguma of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, also praised Wike’s contributions to the development of the territory, describing the completion of the abandoned project as an example of the importance of continuity in governance.
