Zodwa Wabantu accused of missing two paid KZN gigs as promoter prepares court action

Durban production company Igezaa says it will take Zodwa Wabantu to court after claiming the entertainer failed to appear at two paid bookings in KwaZulu-Natal on 26 September, despite receiving her full appearance fees. The company says it wants its money back and is preparing a summons. The bookings were made by Igezaa Production Company, owned by Durban businessman and TV producer Scelo Sibiya. According to the company, Zodwa was scheduled to appear at an event in Nongoma and later at Oasis Club in Durban on the same day.

Sibiya said the no-shows left paying fans disappointed and caused financial losses for the organisers. “All I want is my refund. That is all,” he said, adding that the company is withholding certain invoices while it investigates the matter. Igezaa alleges that Zodwa was paid in advance for both appearances but did not pitch at either venue. The company says hundreds of fans were left waiting and that the failed bookings affected its reputation and finances.

Sibiya also claimed that Zodwa’s alleged conduct damages other people working in the events industry, from promoters and venue owners to DJs and service providers who depend on shows going ahead.

The production company says it is now pursuing formal legal action and intends to summon Zodwa to court. No court date or case number has been publicly confirmed in the available reports. Zodwa Wabantu has denied wrongdoing in connection with the alleged missed appearances. Her detailed response, including whether she claims the events were cancelled, postponed or improperly arranged, has not been clearly set out in the reports currently circulating.

The allegations come despite heavy promotion before the Nongoma show. In the build-up, Zodwa had described the performance as her return to KwaZulu-Natal after six years, saying it would be her first appearance in the province since becoming a sangoma in 2022.

This is not the first time Zodwa has faced complaints from event organisers. In 2023, several Mpumalanga promoters alleged that she failed to honour multiple paid bookings, with organisers claiming she attended only one of several scheduled events.

At the time, Zodwa told City Press that she had missed events because of “personal matters.” The latest KZN dispute remains an allegation until tested in court or resolved between the parties.
