Uproar at Taraba Mosque as Worshipper Shouts “That’s a Lie” at Sheikh Jalo Over Tinubu’s Government
According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, October 31, 2026, a Friday sermon delivered by Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo has reportedly sparked controversy at a mosque in Taraba State after a worshipper openly disagreed with his comments about President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The disagreement reportedly occurred during Juma’at prayers when Jalo Jalingo addressed the congregation and stated that the Tinubu-led government was not oppressive. However, one worshipper immediately challenged his position by shouting, “That’s a lie!” The exchange reportedly caused tension inside the mosque, with video footage showing some worshippers leaving the premises in protest.
The incident has attracted considerable attention on social media, with discussions focusing on the cleric’s political comments and the reaction from members of the congregation.
In a Facebook post published on Saturday morning, Jalo Jalingo appealed to the people of Taraba State to exercise patience and support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections. He described the party as the best option for addressing what he considers years of oppression and injustice in the state.
The cleric wrote: “We have advised our respected people of Taraba State to exercise patience, wisdom and political maturity by voting for the All Progressives Congress, APC. Through this choice, In Sha Allah, we believe we can set ourselves on the path towards liberation from the oppression and injustice that our state has endured for over 20 years.”
He also advised residents against voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), arguing that supporting those parties would allow longstanding problems to continue. He extended his warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Reaffirming his support for the ruling party, Jalo Jalingo stated: “Indeed, the most appropriate decision in this year’s election is for all our people to exercise further patience and vote for the APC,” while also asking Allah to guide the people and grant Taraba State success.
His endorsement, however, generated criticism from several Facebook users who questioned his involvement in partisan politics and suggested that political considerations should not influence his religious responsibilities.
Rufai Abubakar Fta alleged that the cleric’s position was driven by personal interests rather than the wellbeing of Taraba residents. Malam Adamu Chilariye also criticised his political involvement, arguing that it had affected public confidence in his religious teachings.
Gambo Basiru Jata appeared to refer to the confrontation at the mosque by questioning whether the cleric had considered the previous day’s incident. Mubaraq Dan Funtua similarly asked why he had released another political statement without addressing the reported disagreement.
The controversy comes amid growing political activities across Nigeria as parties and supporters prepare for the 2027 general elections.
