U-17 WWC: Five Key Players To Watch As Flamingos Face Venezuela In Quarterfinal

According to a report by The Premium Times on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, are standing just one win away from a return to the semi-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

As they lock horns with Venezuela in Sunday’s high-stakes quarterfinal in Morocco, head coach Akeem Busari’s squad is gearing up for a tough battle.

After stumbling in their opening match against Poland, the Flamingos bounced back in style, brushing aside Puerto Rico, defending champions DPR Korea, and Mexico.

However, Venezuela comes into this clash high on confidence, having stunned football powerhouse Germany 1-0 in the round of 16 courtesy of Diana Bravo’s early strike.

With a coveted semi-final ticket up for grabs, individual brilliance will surely play a massive role.

Nigeria will be pinning their hopes on the lethal form of forward Oluebube Umejiaku, who has netted against Poland, DPR Korea, and Mexico, alongside Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who also starred during the group stage.

Towering 1.92-metre goalkeeper Jane Ijirigho, fresh off a stellar display against Mexico, will be vital in keeping the Venezuelan attack at bay.

On the other hand, the South Americans boast match-winners like Diana Bravo and Andrea Suárez, whose dramatic stoppage-time winner against Zambia kept their tournament dreams alive.

Coach Busari’s girls must combine sharp attacking quality with strict defensive discipline and total concentration from start to finish.

If the Flamingos maintain their composure, another complete team performance against the South Americans could easily propel them one step closer to making history.
