Trump Grants Urgent Visa Request for Mother of Ghanaian Teen Killed in US

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced that United States President Donald Trump has agreed to facilitate an immediate visa for the mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, who was fatally shot in the Bronx.

In a social media post on October 31, 2026, Mamdani disclosed that Trump gave the assurance during a telephone conversation between the two leaders.

The mayor said the arrangement would enable the deceased teenager’s mother to travel to the United States and attend to matters surrounding her son’s death, including having the opportunity to bid him a final farewell in person.

Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian, was shot dead in the Bronx area of New York City.

Reports indicate that the teenager was shot in the abdomen while walking near a school on Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. around East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx.

Police officers who responded to the incident rushed the teenager to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Authorities have since launched a manhunt for three teenage boys, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting.

The suspects were reportedly last seen wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks.

However, investigators have yet to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting or identify a possible motive for the attack.

The incident happened close to the apartment where Javits lived with his 60-year-old father, Thomas Frimpong.

CBS News New York reported that it contacted the deceased teenager’s father by telephone while he was at the hospital following the shooting.
