Trump Grants Immediate US Visa To Mother Of Ghanaian Teenager Javits Frimpong Shot Dead In New York

The decision followed a telephone conversation between Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who appealed for the mother to be allowed to travel to the US to attend to her son’s death.

United States President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an immediate visa to the mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, Javits Frimpong, who was shot dead in the Bronx, New York, to enable her to travel to the US and mourn her son.

The decision followed a telephone conversation between Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who appealed for the mother to be allowed to travel to the US to attend to her son’s death.

Mamdani disclosed this in a post on X, describing the killing of the teenager as a tragedy no parent should have to endure, particularly from thousands of miles away.

“Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her a visa immediately,” the mayor said.

“All of New York City is mourning this tragedy,” he added.

Police officers rushed the teenager to St Barnabas Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities are searching for three teenage suspects, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, who reportedly fled the scene wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks.

No arrests have been announced, while investigators are yet to establish the motive behind the killing.

The victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, has expressed concerns that alleged bullying his son experienced at school might have been connected to the killing.

He reportedly said the school’s principal had previously informed him that his son was being bullied, an incident which allegedly led to the suspension of two pupils.

However, authorities have not established any connection between the alleged bullying and the shooting.

Outrage Over Killing Of Ghanaian Teenager

The killing has sparked outrage and grief in both Ghana and the United States, with members of the Ghanaian community in the Bronx gathering to mourn the teenager.

Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who lives in Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, is expected to travel to Accra on Monday to begin the visa application process.

The Ghanaian government has also condemned the killing and pledged to pursue justice for the teenager.

In a statement on Friday, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the government would explore all available measures to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.

“We will pursue justice and ensure that those responsible do not get away with this,” the ministry said.

It called on US authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and pledged legal and consular assistance to the bereaved family.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also expressed the government’s condolences to the family, reaffirming the country’s commitment to protecting the welfare of its citizens abroad.

Officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission in New York have reportedly visited the family following the incident.

The shooting occurred in Claremont, near Crotona Park in the Bronx, an area with a sizeable Ghanaian community.

According to reports, the teenager was shot near his family home at about 9:20 a.m. while heading to school.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed the teenager running as he was chased by his attackers, one of whom was dressed in black clothing and wearing a mask.

The New York Police Department has appealed to members of the public with information about the killing to contact Crime Stoppers as investigations continue.
