Today’s Headlines: 2027: We Have No Issue With Gwarzo, Says INEC; Ogun Gov Lauded on Economic Growth
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it has no objection to the candidacy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Abdulsalam Gwarzo. The commission said Gwarzo had been cleared, but his name and that of his running mate, Rabiu Mustapha, were excluded from the updated candidates’ list because of a Federal High Court order issued in Kano on October 27.
An INEC official explained that the court order restrains the commission from publishing the names of NDC candidates pending the final determination of the matter. The clarification followed concerns over Gwarzo’s continued absence from the updated list despite INEC’s earlier review of petitions, during which 66 complaints were upheld and 64 rejected across governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
Community leaders, traders and artisans in Ogun State have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for initiatives aimed at promoting grassroots development and economic growth. Speaking at the 2026 International Community Day and World Trades Day in Iperu-Remo, the Chairman of the Traders and Artisans Council, Omoniyi Babatope, praised the governor for approving a ₦500 million grant to support local artisans, saying the intervention had improved businesses and productivity.
The state government also distributed grants and subventions to several Community Development Associations and organisations. Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Ademola Balogun, said the administration would continue partnering with communities, traders and artisans to improve livelihoods and implement grassroots development projects.
All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027, saying the same divine favour that brought him victory in 2023 would prevail again. Yari spoke in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he joined Tinubu and other Nigerians for the Umrah pilgrimage, following the President’s remarks about relying on Allah for a second-term victory.
Yari said Tinubu’s faith and the campaign council’s mobilisation efforts would play important roles in the election. He added that the APC campaign team would engage voters, explain the administration’s achievements and convince Nigerians to support the President for another term.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has ruled out Ebola Virus Disease in two suspected cases in Yola, Adamawa State, after two rounds of laboratory tests returned negative results. The individuals were isolated after reporting symptoms on October 30, and public health measures were initiated while their samples were examined. NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, said there was no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa.
Idris said the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remained Nigeria’s only confirmed Ebola infection. He commended the Adamawa State Government for its prompt response and assured residents that surveillance and monitoring would continue. He urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified information and advised anyone experiencing Ebola-related symptoms, particularly after possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.
