“There Is No Way An Igbo Man After Staying For 60 Years, Will Want To Be President For 4yrs–Umahi

According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has declared his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing what he described as the President’s remarkable achievements in the South-East and other parts of the country.

Umahi made the declaration during the All Progressives Congress (APC) town hall meeting held at the Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

He described Tinubu as a blessing to the South-East and maintained that the region should support his administration for another four-year term, the minister also identified himself as a Lion of the South-East.

The meeting was organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement in the South-East, Barrister Chioma Nweze, as part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru and other APC candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.

During the gathering, former senator representing Ebonyi Central, Julius Ali Ucha, presented a motion seeking the adoption of the APC, President Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru and all party candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The motion received support from former Senator Anthony Agbo, who represented Ebonyi North.

Umahi subsequently subjected the motion to a voice vote, which received widespread endorsement from participants at the meeting.

Several prominent individuals also addressed the gathering, including traditional rulers Ezeogo Charles Nkpume and Ezeogo Sunday Oketa, Bishop Onyeuwa Omar, CAN Chairman Stan Nwokolo, Pastor Eunice Oyeyemi of Divine Mandate Pastors and former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Professor Chigozie Ogbu.

Addressing APC supporters, the minister urged traditional rulers and religious leaders to openly support Tinubu’s second-term ambition rather than remain neutral because of regional considerations.

He also called on leaders across clans, villages, communities and local government areas to engage individuals contesting against the existing zoning arrangement in Ebonyi State and encourage support for Governor Nwifuru’s re-election.

Umahi further argued that the South-East should consider the broader implications of its political decisions, particularly regarding the region’s quest for the presidency.

He maintained that political arrangements should allow different regions to have a reasonable opportunity to produce the country’s leader.

He said, “There is no way an Igbo man after staying for 60 years, will want to be President for four years. There is nobody that can accept that. The North has not accepted to be President for four years.
