Several Injured as APC Supporters Are Attacked, Campaign Vehicle Burnt in Katsina

According to a report by Channels Television on Sunday, November 1, 2026, several people were reportedly injured after suspected attackers disrupted a campaign convoy conveying supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yankara town, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, with a campaign vehicle belonging to a political support group set ablaze during the incident.

The violence occurred on Saturday as APC supporters were travelling to a political rally organised to promote the re-election bids of Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Eyewitnesses alleged that some youths blocked a road along the route designated for the campaign convoy, disrupting the movement of vehicles and triggering confusion among supporters heading to the rally.

The Caucus Chairman of the Musa Adamu Network, Alhaji Nura Sule Yandaki, said he was travelling to the event alongside 11 members of his team when the confrontation occurred.

Yandaki explained that the incident reportedly unfolded while members of an Islamic group were holding a Maulud procession in the area. He alleged that some individuals used the gathering as an opportunity to attack vehicles conveying APC supporters.

During the confrontation, a vehicle belonging to the Musa Adamu Network was reportedly set on fire, further escalating tensions among those travelling to the political gathering.

Another eyewitness claimed that two APC supporters sustained fatal injuries during the incident. However, the alleged deaths had not been independently verified as of Saturday night, and authorities had not officially confirmed the reported fatalities.

As of 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, the police had yet to release an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the violence or confirming the number of casualties.

Reacting to the incident, the Secretary of the Musa Adamu Network, Shamsuddeen Sani Lema, condemned the reported attack and called on security agencies to investigate the matter.

Lema described the violence as unacceptable, stressing that Nigerians should be able to participate in political activities without fear of intimidation, harassment or physical attacks.

He urged the relevant authorities to identify those responsible for the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Despite the reported violence, Governor Radda went ahead with the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign rally in Faskari, where he highlighted projects and programmes undertaken by his administration in healthcare, education, infrastructure and security.

Among the achievements he presented was the completion and commissioning of the Faskari General Hospital, which he described as the fulfilment of a commitment he made to residents during an earlier campaign visit to the community.

The governor also outlined road construction and rehabilitation projects, improvements in educational institutions and other government initiatives aimed at improving living conditions across Katsina State.

Addressing security concerns, Radda assured residents that his administration would continue working to create a safer environment for communities, businesses and economic activities. He maintained that strengthening security remained a key priority of his government’s development agenda.

Earlier at the rally, the Director-General of the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 Campaign Council, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of APC supporters.

He urged party members, particularly women and young people, to intensify grassroots mobilisation as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Katsina State APC Chairman, Bishir Saulawa, also addressed the gathering, assuring supporters that the party was committed to conducting its campaign activities peacefully.

Saulawa said the APC would concentrate on presenting its achievements, policies and plans to voters rather than engaging in personal attacks, insults or remarks capable of creating divisions among political groups.

Nevertheless, the reported attack in Yankara has raised concerns about the safety of political supporters attending rallies and other campaign-related activities in Katsina State.

The burning of a campaign vehicle, reports of injuries and unverified claims of fatalities have highlighted the need for stronger security arrangements around political gatherings.

The incident has also renewed calls for security agencies to establish the circumstances that led to the confrontation, identify those involved and take appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible.
