Ramaphosaās Former Adviser Bejani Chauke Faces Scrutiny Over WhatsApp Messages With Taxi Boss Jotham āMswaziā Msibi
Former political adviser to President Cyril Ramaphosa, Dr Bejani Chauke, has come under scrutiny following revelations about his WhatsApp communications with the late Mpumalanga taxi boss Jotham āKing Mswaziā Msibi.
The matter has attracted the attention of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which reportedly issued Chauke a Regulation 10(6) notice on 27 October 2026, requiring him to explain his relationship with Msibi and their exchanges.
According to reports, the conversations date back to 2022 and 2023, when Chauke was serving as Ramaphosaās political adviser.
The commission is examining information recovered from Msibiās cellphone, which has exposed alleged connections involving senior police officials, business figures and individuals with political influence.
Some of the messages reportedly touch on sensitive state security matters, confidential presidential briefings and senior crime intelligence officials.
Chauke’s name also emerged during testimony by former Hawks head Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya. He told the commission that private investigator Paul OāSullivan had contacted him seeking an update on the high-profile Phala Phala investigation while indicating that Chauke was with him.
Meanwhile, Chauke is reportedly consulting his legal representatives and is expected to respond to the commission’s notice within the stipulated period.
The latest development raises questions about the nature of the relationship between the former presidential adviser and the late taxi boss, particularly during the period Chauke held an influential position in government.
However, the notice is a request for information and does not constitute a criminal charge or proof of wrongdoing.
The commission’s investigation is expected to provide further clarity as it continues examining alleged links between political influence, business interests and criminal justice structures.
