Ngizwe Mchunu seen with ANC members despite his past criticism of the party

Ngizwe Mchunu has attracted attention after appearing alongside ANC members in a photograph shared by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi during the party’s campaign activities. His appearance has raised questions because he was previously prominent in the anti-illegal immigration movement alongside Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma and Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, also known as Phakel’umthakathi. His relationship with the movement reportedly deteriorated after he and Ndabandaba met President Cyril Ramaphosa without Ngobese-Zuma, leading March and March to suspend its relationship with him.

What the post does not settle is what Mchunu’s political position now is, since the post does not say whether he has joined the ANC or simply attended the campaign event. The post also does not say when the photograph was taken or whether he has commented on the reaction. Those details matter because they would establish the nature of his appearance. Without them, the image shows only him alongside ANC members, and the question of whether he has switched sides remains unanswered.

People reacting to the post questioned how the same Mchunu who spoke against the ANC could now be seen with its members, with some saying he had changed sides and others saying the photograph did not prove he had joined the party. Some said his political position had become confusing after his falling out with March and March, while others said he was entitled to meet whomever he chose.

What has not been settled is whether Mchunu has commented on the photograph or whether the ANC has confirmed his involvement in the campaign. The post does not establish whether he has abandoned the anti-illegal immigration movement or whether his appearance with ANC members signals a new alliance. The public is waiting for more information, because the photograph has fuelled questions about his political position without any clarification from him.
