Never Raise a Child in the Bronx – Cardi B Reacts to Killing of Ghanaian Teen
According to a report by GhanaWeb on Sunday, November 1, 2026, American music star Cardi B has expressed concern over the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Frimpong in New York, saying the incident has strengthened her decision never to raise her children in the Bronx or certain other neighbourhoods in the city.
The rapper, who spent her childhood in the Bronx, reacted to the teenager’s death by questioning the safety of some communities in New York and expressing fears about the environment in which young people are growing up.
Javits was shot while heading to school in the Bronx, with his death prompting concern among Ghanaians and members of the wider public following reports of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Speaking about the tragedy, Cardi B explained that she would not want her children to grow up in the Bronx, Harlem or Washington Heights, adding that she would also avoid sending them to public schools in New York.
“Jarvits is the reason why I would never raise a kid in the Bronx, Harlem, Washington Heights. I will never raise a kid in a New York public school. I will never raise a kid in the hood. Let me tell you why. It is a game of survival to live in those places,” she said.
The rapper also questioned the actions of the teenagers suspected of being involved in the shooting, expressing disbelief that anyone could deliberately take the life of another person without provocation.
“Even the kids that killed that boy, what is wrong with you? How do you wake up in the morning and say ‘today is a good day to kill someone who has not wronged or attacked me’?” she asked.
Cardi B further advised people living in New York who intend to start families to consider relocating elsewhere, arguing that the behaviour of some young people in the city had become increasingly troubling.
“If you are in New York and you want to have kids, move out because the kids there are so nasty,” she stated.
Javits relocated from Ghana to the United States approximately a year before his death to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, a 60-year-old taxi driver.
The teenager was reportedly shot once shortly before 9:30 a.m. on October 29, 2026, near East 171st Street in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx, and later died at a hospital.
He attended DreamYard Preparatory School, where his father said he had experienced difficulties involving other students before the fatal incident.
Speaking to CBS News New York, Thomas Frimpong disclosed that the school’s principal had contacted him days before the shooting to inform him about a confrontation involving his son and two other boys, who were subsequently suspended.
The grieving father also revealed that Javits had complained about being bullied during lunchtime, raising further concerns about the challenges the teenager may have faced at school.
Investigators are searching for three teenage boys believed to be between 16 and 18 years old in connection with the shooting.
The suspects were reportedly last seen wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks, while police had not announced any arrests at the time of the reports.
Authorities have also not established the motive behind the attack or confirmed whether the reported bullying incident had any connection to the shooting.
Javits’ death has brought renewed attention to concerns surrounding violence involving young people, leaving his family to mourn a teenager whose move from Ghana to join his father in the United States ended in tragedy.
