Mt Kenya Politician Finally Clears Air On Presidential Candidate He’ll Support In 2027 Elections

Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Jeremiah Kioni has thrown his weight behind the opposition’s plan to field a single presidential candidate against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, declaring that he will support whoever emerges from the selection process.

Kioni said he was prepared to work with any leader chosen by the opposition, insisting that personal presidential ambitions should not be allowed to derail efforts to build a united political front.

Speaking during a podcast interview on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Kioni challenged opposition leaders interested in succeeding Ruto to agree on a common candidate and rally behind that individual.

He maintained that the opposition’s strength would depend on its willingness to accommodate different political interests and work towards a shared objective.

Kioni said he had made himself available to the opposition team and would not oppose a candidate simply because he had a different political preference.

“Let them give us one who will rally around him. Whatever shortcomings he’ll have, we will fit in,” he stated.

The Jubilee deputy leader also called for a broader political strategy that would establish leadership teams across different elective positions, arguing that winning the presidency alone would not be enough to deliver the opposition’s promises.

He separately questioned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s political approach, arguing that the former CS should have spent more time building his national support base before aligning himself with the wider opposition movement.

Kioni suggested that Matiang’i had an opportunity to use his experience in government to visit different regions, engage voters and independently popularise his presidential ambitions.

He further warned opposition leaders against relying heavily on political slogans and criticism of Ruto without presenting concrete alternatives.

According to Kioni, issues such as unemployment, school fees and access to healthcare should form the centre of the opposition’s campaign.

He argued that voters needed convincing answers on how a new administration would improve their lives rather than political rhetoric and rally entertainment.
