Mechanic Remanded Over GH¢650 Purchase of GH¢4,000 TV Stolen From Chief’s Tomb

A 29-year-old auto mechanic has been remanded into police custody by the Nsuta Circuit Court for allegedly purchasing a 50-inch TCL television believed to have been stolen from a tomb at Nwase Cemetery near Asante Mampong.

The accused, identified as Yussif Sammed, also known as Isaac, reportedly admitted buying the television for GH¢650, despite its estimated market value of GH¢4,000, according to a report by Obaapa TV.

The prosecution informed the court that the television was allegedly taken from the tomb of a late traditional chief in the community by an accomplice, identified as Atta Nketiah, who is currently on the run.

A tricycle operator, Clifford Baah, was also reportedly involved in transporting the television from the cemetery after the alleged theft.

The stolen television was subsequently retrieved from Sammed’s room at Mampong Zongo.

During the court proceedings, Sammed pleaded guilty with an explanation. He told the court that he had given Nketiah money as financial assistance and expected him to collect the television and refund the amount.

Following the proceedings, the court ordered that Sammed be remanded into police custody.

The case was adjourned to November 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
