Makau Mutua Names Top Politician Who Allegedly Planned Kalonzo’s Heckling, Says He Has Evidence

Former President William Ruto’s adviser Makau Mutua has accused Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna of orchestrating the heckling of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during a political gathering in Nairobi.

Mutua alleged that Sifuna was involved in planning the disruption that occurred during the opening of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Lavington, where Kalonzo was interrupted by a section of the crowd. In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, October 31, Mutua claimed that he had voice recordings and text messages that could prove his allegations against the Nairobi senator.

He condemned the incident, describing it as primitive and questioning why Kalonzo had been subjected to such treatment at a gathering attended by several opposition leaders.

The drama unfolded on Friday after Kalonzo challenged remarks made by Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Wamalwa had appeared to endorse Sifuna as the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

However, Kalonzo disagreed with the suggestion, maintaining that the opposition must first establish an agreed procedure for choosing its flagbearer.

The former vice president insisted that the decision should be made through consultations involving all coalition members rather than allowing individuals to declare their preferred candidates.

His remarks were met with resistance from some people at the gathering, who shouted him down and interrupted his speech.Sifuna later stepped in and appealed to the crowd to respect Kalonzo and give him time to address the meeting.

The incident has exposed divisions within the opposition at a time when its leaders are expected to work together ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Kalonzo is among the experienced opposition politicians who are considered possible contenders for the coalition’s presidential ticket.

Mutua’s claims have added to the political tension, particularly because he says he has recordings and messages linking Sifuna to the incident.

However, he has not publicly released the alleged evidence, and his accusations have not been independently established.
