Is Angela Atieh Not A Ghanaian? — NPP’s Akaneweo Kabiru Accuses Government Of Targeting Her Mines

Pan-Africanist and political commentator associated with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akaneweo Kabiru Abdul, has accused the government of unfairly targeting Ghanaian mining entrepreneur Angela Atieh and her businesses. He questioned why companies under her NGUVU Holdings are facing difficulties despite her experience and contribution to the mining industry.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on November 1, 2026, Abdul described Atieh as a Ghanaian entrepreneur who had worked exceptionally hard to establish NGUVU Holdings, which he said is one of the largest mining groups in West Africa. He added that she has more than 25 years of experience in the mining sector.

Abdul listed five companies operating under NGUVU Holdings: Adamus Resources Limited and Northern Ashanti Mines Company Limited, both in Ghana; Segala Mining Corporation in Mali; Samira Hill SA in Niger; and Poura Resources Limited in Burkina Faso. He also highlighted Atieh’s position as First Vice-President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, noting that she served as Second Vice-President until June 2026.

According to Abdul, Atieh operated her businesses freely until the current government assumed office, after which, he alleged, the difficulties began. He questioned why a government that frequently speaks about protecting Ghanaian entrepreneurs would allow a Ghanaian-owned mining business to face what he described as persistent pressure.

He drew comparisons with the takeover of Damang Mines, which he described as unlawful, arguing that the government’s approach to Atieh’s businesses raised questions about its commitment to protecting local investors. He challenged the authorities to explain why Atieh’s companies were facing such treatment when she is also Ghanaian and employs Ghanaians.

The NPP-affiliated commentator further alleged that the Presidency, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and the Minerals Commission were pursuing a deliberate plan to transfer Atieh’s mining interests to certain individuals close to the corridors of power, allegedly operating under the cover of Chinese companies. He, however, did not provide documentary evidence in his post to substantiate this allegation.

Abdul cited Adamus Resources Limited as an example, claiming that its mining lease was revoked before public criticism from individuals he described as concerned citizens drew attention to what he considered hypocrisy, selective treatment and unlawful conduct. He added that the President later issued a statement after the matter became embarrassing for the government.

He further alleged that the authorities had turned their attention to Northern Ashanti Mines Company Limited, where he claimed National Security personnel, military officers and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) were involved in a takeover despite existing court injunctions. He said the development had left him deeply concerned about the treatment of Atieh and her businesses.

Turning his criticism towards the Minerals Commission, Abdul argued that the institution was established to regulate the mining industry, administer the relevant legal framework and protect the integrity of the sector, rather than facilitate the destruction of businesses belonging to entrepreneurs without political connections. He accused the Commission of abandoning its regulatory responsibilities and becoming what he described as a deal-cutting institution.

Abdul maintained that Atieh deserves the same protection and consideration as any other Ghanaian entrepreneur, regardless of her political or family connections. He urged Ghanaians to reject what he described as hypocrisy and speak out against the alleged abuse of power directed at her and her mining businesses.
