In Terms of Managing the Economy, I Am Better Than Tinubu and Atiku – Peter Obi
According to reports by Daily Post on Sunday November 1, 2026, former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that he considers himself better qualified than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to manage Nigeria’s economy ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi made the statement on Saturday during a town hall meeting in Owerri, Imo State, where he addressed Nigerians as part of his engagement ahead of the next presidential election.
During the meeting, the former Labour Party presidential candidate reportedly compared his record in public office with those of Tinubu and Atiku, arguing that his experience, management of resources and leadership qualities placed him in a stronger position to lead the country.
He specifically pointed to his eight-year administration in Anambra State, insisting that he managed the state’s resources without borrowing and left substantial funds in its coffers after leaving office.
Obi said: “I’m better than Tinubu, Atiku. I have a better track record. I managed Anambra well without borrowing. I left billions in the coffers. Nigerians know who can manage this country.”
His remarks focused particularly on economic management, an issue expected to remain central to discussions among political parties and presidential aspirants ahead of the 2027 election.
Obi also criticised Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the President had failed to deliver on the promises associated with his Renewed Hope agenda. He further described Atiku as representing an old political order that he believes Nigerians have rejected.
The NDC candidate also reportedly referred to his performance in the 2023 presidential election, particularly his victory over Tinubu in Lagos State, as part of the record he believes demonstrates his political strength.
In the 2023 election, Obi secured more votes than Tinubu in Lagos, although Tinubu went on to win the overall presidential contest nationwide.
